This video presents a positive look at how four rural communities in three Southern states are creatively coping with the growing waste crisis, thanks to the leadership of local people. In Hancock County and the Cumberland Plateau areas of Tennessee, successful recycling programs have been tailored to the local needs and a neglected sharecropper community has been cleaned up and improved housing built. In Troy, Alabama, a retired oil executive helped oversee implementaiton of a successful, comprehensive solid waste plan. Included with the video is a detailed 32 page booklet, which provides more background on the rural waste issue and on each community profiled.
